Varela set for United switch

Uruguay right-back Guillermo Varela is set to complete a move to Manchester United according to the Daily Mail.

The 20 year old had a trial at Old Trafford last season, impressing recently retired manager Sir Alex Ferguson.

Varela, who currently plays for Penarol in his native country, will cost an initial £1million pounds – a fee which could potentially rise to £2.5million following add-ons.

Meanwhile, one full back who’s chances of joining United seem to be decreasing in Leighton Baines, with the England international set to be offered a new contract at Goodison Park.

The 28 year old has been linked with a move to the Red half of Manchester for some time, though Everton are doing all they can to deter their former manager from making an approach.

However, it has been revealed that Marouane Fellaini can leave the Toffees should a side meet the £22million that would activate his release clause.

Like Baines, the Belgian international has long been on United’s radar, though Arsenal have emerged as the front runners to secure his services.

Finally, Darren Fletcher is on the brink of a sensational return to the first team, after the Scotland international was said to be making good progress in his recovery from a chronic bowel condition.

The 28 year old has targeted pre-season for a comeback.
