Vidic rallies teammates following slow start

Nemanja Vidic has said that Manchester United need to “put some pride back” into their faltering season, the Daily Star understands.

The Premier League champions fell to a humiliating 4-1 defeat to neighbors Manchester City on Sunday afternoon, a result which has seen them drop to eighth place – five points behind leaders Arsenal.

David Moyes had previously bemoaned their ‘difficult start’ to the season, and the club responded by taking just one point from their games against Chelsea, Liverpool and City.

They will now turn their attention to the League Cup – a competition they last won in 2010 – with tomorrow evening’s third round tie against Liverpool at Old Trafford tomorrow evening.

Elsewhere, Jesse Lingard has said that he would be willing to extend his loan stay with Birmingham City beyond this month.

The midfielder enjoyed an outstanding debut against Sheffield Wednesday, scoring all four goals in a 4-1 win, including a fourteen minute first half hat-trick.

The game was Lingard’s first start of his professional career, though he did make five substitute appearances for Leicester City in a brief spell with the Foxes last season, and impressed in preseason for United before being again being temporarily sent to gain experience in the Championship.
