Manchester United striker Danny Welbeck has admitted that he needs to add goals to his game to assure him of a place in Sir Alex Ferguson’s side.
The 22 year old has enjoyed a breakthrough twelve months, representing England at Euro 2012 and playing twenty-four league games in United’s charge towards the title this season.
However, he has scored just two goals this campaign, with his only league effort coming in the 4-2 win over Stoke City back in October.
Meanwhile, Atletico Madrid have dampened down reports that Radamel Falcao is set to move to Old Trafford.
Reports in Spain had suggested that United had become front runners in the race to sign the Colombian, who is regarded as the hottest property in European football having scored 64 goals since the beginning of last season.
However, Atletico coach Diego Simeone has brushed off the speculation, telling reporters that “it’s not news”.
Elsewhere, Mat Hummels has named Barcelona as a potential destination should he leave Borussia Dortmund in the summer.
The German international has been linked with Manchester United, who are thought to be searching for a long term replacement for Rio Ferdinand.
However, the 24 year old told reporters that the Spanish club are “one out of two or three teams” that could tempt him to move.
